We have a large number of clients who come to us from other states. We are presently helping clients in New York, Arizona, Hawaii, Connecticut, Utah, Nevada, Oregon, California, Arkansas, Alabama, as well as many other states.
When dealing with clients from states other than Washington a different set of rules apply in order to insure that Washington courts actually have jurisdiction. One aspect of jurisdiction often arises regarding child custody matters. The last states that Washington courts will not have jurisdiction over a child unless the child has lived in the state of Washington for at least six months.
There are many other such rules that apply but they are not difficult to overcome. A child support obligation from another state, for instance, can be enforced in Washington.
