Annulment

An annulment can be obtained only if the marriage is for some reason invalid.

A marriage could be held invalid if the parties were too young to be legally married, incapacitated (as in so intoxicated that they didn't know what they were doing), already being married at the time of the second “marriage” and the like.

Unless there is a reason the marriage can be considered invalid an annulment cannot be obtained and a person must go through the dissolution process.
